1. The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its "in-principle" support for the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). While endorsing the ideological stance behind the UCC, the party emphasized the importance of consensus-building through discussions with all religions and political parties before its implementation. AAP leader Sandeep Pathak criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of raising complicated and complex issues for political gain ahead of elections. The AAP's endorsement of the UCC, a politically sensitive topic, is seen as a move to strengthen the opposition's campaign against the BJP in the upcoming general election.




2. Chandrashekhar Azad, the chief of the Bhim Army, was targeted in an assassination attempt in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Unidentified armed men attacked Azad's convoy, firing multiple rounds and leaving him injured. Azad was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The attackers, who arrived in a car with a Haryana license plate, managed to escape the scene. The incident is currently under investigation, and further updates are awaited.




3. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), India's top Muslim body, conducted an emergency meeting following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's endorsement of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). AIMPLB members decided to oppose the UCC and discussed its legal aspects. They also decided to present their side to the Law Commission, along with relevant documents. Opposition parties, including Congress, DMK, and AIMIM, accused the Prime Minister of resorting to divisive politics. The Congress and DMK suggested that a uniform code should first be applied to Hindus. The AIMPLB and opposition parties criticized PM Modi for diverting attention from pressing issues like violence, price rise, and unemployment.




4. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued yellow and orange alerts in Maharashtra due to the possibility of heavy rainfall. The southwest monsoon has advanced over Mumbai and Delhi, and the IMD warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Thane, Pune, Nashik, Satara, Raigad, and Ratnagiri were placed under an orange alert, indicating a higher level of caution, while Mumbai, Palghar, and Sindhudurg were placed under a yellow alert. The IMD's alert follows recent heavy rainfall in various parts of Maharashtra, leading to waterlogging and disruption of daily life.




5. Police authorities have requested the Muslim community residing in Badrinath, a major Char Dham destination, to celebrate Bakrid in Joshimath instead. The decision was made in a meeting involving members of the minority community, priests, and contractors working on reconstruction projects in Badrinath. The aim is to maintain the dignity of the temple town and ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the festival. The Muslim community agreed not to offer Bakrid prayers in Badrinath and agreed to travel to Joshimath for the celebrations. This decision comes after a previous incident of tension in Badrinath when secret prayers were allegedly conducted inside a building by the minority community during Bakrid.
