Billionaire Elon Musk Set to Rebrand Twitter as the X App: A New Era in Social Media

| 23 July 2023

Elon Musk, the visionary entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has long been teasing the world with his ambitious plans for the X app - a super app that promises to revolutionize the way people connect, transact, and interact with each other. In an unexpected turn of events, Musk's vision took a significant leap forward in April this year when Twitter, the popular social media platform, was legally merged with Musk's X Corp, effectively erasing Twitter Inc from the books. Since then, speculations about Twitter's transformation into the X app have been rampant, but the recent tweet from Musk confirms that the rebranding is imminent.

"And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds," Musk tweeted, alluding to the end of the iconic blue bird logo that has become synonymous with Twitter.

It is crucial to note that this rebranding does not mean the end of Twitter as a platform. Instead, it signifies a new beginning under the X app umbrella. Users will still be able to use the platform, interact with others, and share their thoughts; the only significant change will be the shift away from the Twitter name and logo.

The announcement triggered a wave of reactions from netizens across the globe. While some are eagerly anticipating a fresh start with the X app, others have expressed reluctance to part ways with the familiar blue bird.

In another tweet, Musk hinted that the rebranding could happen as swiftly as within a day if a suitable X logo is proposed. This demonstrates Musk's decisive approach to executing his vision.

While the rebranding news continues to make waves, one question remains unanswered: what will happen to the domain Twitter.com? As of now, Musk has not addressed this aspect of the transition. Given the domain's value and significance, the process of transitioning to a new domain might take some time. However, the rebranding of the platform itself appears to be on the fast track.

About X Corp, the entity that has absorbed Twitter, court documents filed in California on April 4 shed some light on the matter. Twitter Inc. no longer exists as an independent company and has become a part of X Corp. The newly merged entity is a privately held corporation, headquartered in San Francisco, California, and incorporated in Nevada. Elon Musk serves as the president of both X Corp and its parent company, X Holdings Corp, created in March.

Described by Musk as the 'everything app,' X is anticipated to encompass an array of features, ranging from social networking to payments and beyond. Comparisons have been drawn to WeChat, the immensely popular app in China that caters to a multitude of activities, offering users a seamless, all-in-one experience.

As Musk's plans for the X app continue to unfold, the world watches with anticipation, eager to witness the dawn of a new era in social media. The rebranding of Twitter into the X app marks a momentous milestone in Musk's quest to reshape how we connect and communicate in the digital age.
