Conspiracy Allegations Surface as Yamuna Recedes, Drowning Delhi in Chaos
In the aftermath of the Yamuna River reaching a historic high of 208.66 meters, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has come forward with serious allegations, claiming that a deliberate conspiracy was executed to submerge Delhi by releasing excess water from the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana. The party asserts that this action was part of a scheme to inundate the city and key institutions, including the Supreme Court.
During a press conference, Saurabh Bhardwaj, the Delhi Irrigation and Flood Control Minister, boldly declared, "Delhi is being deliberately drowned. Excess water from Hathnikund Barrage was sent only to Delhi. There was also a conspiracy to inundate all important institutions of Delhi, including the Supreme Court." Bhardwaj further alleged that the water was intentionally diverted towards Delhi, while the Western Canal in Haryana and the Eastern Canal in Uttar Pradesh remained dry. Somnath Bharti, a prominent AAP leader, echoed the sentiment, calling the flood a "BJP-made disaster."
In response, the Delhi BJP president, Virendra Sachdeva, accused the AAP government of evading responsibility and shifting blame onto other states, drawing a parallel to their handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. Sachdeva's stance was supported by Haryana Agriculture Minister Jai Parkash Dalal, who stated that the water naturally flows through Delhi, Agra, and Allahabad before draining into the ocean. Dalal further attributed the extensive flooding in parts of the city to illegal possessions and construction in the floodplains.
As the Yamuna River gradually recedes, reaching 207.48 meters at the Old Railway Bridge, signs of relief emerge. The water level is now below the critical threshold of 208 meters, resulting in the halt of water gushing into the city. However, despite the receding water, several areas remain inundated, causing waterlogging and posing challenges to the affected communities.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has made a public appeal urging people to refrain from playing in the floodwaters, emphasizing the potential fatality of such actions. Kejriwal shared a video highlighting children playing in floodwaters in the Shanti Van area and stated, "I urge everyone to avoid this. It could be fatal."
The flood-like situation in the capital has compelled the Delhi government to close schools, colleges, crematoriums, and water treatment plants. Additionally, crematoriums near the Yamuna River have been affected by the inundation, adding to the chaos and disruptions caused by the flooding.
As the Yamuna River recedes and Delhi gradually recovers from this disastrous event, the focus now shifts to investigating the allegations of a conspiracy to drown the city. With politicians from rival parties engaged in a blame game, it is crucial for authorities to conduct a thorough and unbiased inquiry to determine the causes behind the unprecedented flooding. Meanwhile, the residents of Delhi are left grappling with the aftermath, hoping for swift relief and measures to prevent such catastrophic events in the future.
