A security alert was raised on Monday morning as a drone was reportedly sighted above the residence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Delhi Police launched a probe following information received from the Special Protection Group (SPG), an elite force responsible for the Prime Minister's security, about the drone's presence in the no-flying zone.
At approximately 5:30 am local time, the SPG alerted the Delhi Police about an unidentified flying object near PM Modi's residence. In response, thorough searches were conducted in the surrounding areas, but no such object was detected, according to an official statement released by the police.
Authorities also contacted the air traffic control room (ATC) to investigate the matter further. However, the ATC did not detect any airborne object in the vicinity of the Prime Minister's residence. As a result, the police are currently conducting an investigation in the sensitive area to verify the facts and determine the nature of the incident.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of security measures surrounding PM Modi. Recently, the Ministry of Home Affairs implemented new rules mandating that security be overseen by an officer of not less than the rank of an Additional Director-General from the Indian Police Service. The guidelines further specified that junior officers would be appointed on deputation for an initial period of six years.
In a separate development, PM Modi is expected to visit his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, on July 7. During this visit, he is anticipated to unveil various developmental schemes worth approximately three thousand crores for the region. The projects will encompass inaugurations and the laying of foundation stones, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister's office.
The Uttar Pradesh government is presently compiling a comprehensive list of projects to be dedicated and foundation stones to be laid. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently reviewed the progress of the development works with officials, further emphasizing the significance of PM Modi's upcoming visit.
The security breach involving the drone sighting serves as a stark reminder of the constant challenges faced by security forces in protecting high-profile individuals like the Prime Minister. The incident has prompted authorities to reinforce security measures, particularly in sensitive areas, to prevent any potential threats.
