Security Tightened at Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh Borders as Farmers Demand Flood Compensation

In a bid to press their demands for compensation in the wake of devastating floods, farmers in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh have escalated their protests, prompting tightened security at inter-state borders and key entry points. The demonstrations, organized by sixteen prominent farm bodies, have spotlighted the pressing issue of flood-related losses and the urgency for government intervention.

Protests Erupt Amid Detentions and Clashes

Tensions have surged as farmers gear up for a major protest at the Sector 17 parade ground in Chandigarh. However, the run-up to this event has been marred by allegations of detentions and clashes between farmers and law enforcement.

Farmers have claimed that several of their leaders were apprehended in different parts of Punjab, while others were held in Ambala and Kurukshetra in Haryana. - Compensation of Rs 10 lakh for families who tragically lost a member due to the flooding.

Unity Among Farm Bodies

Sixteen farm bodies, including influential groups like the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Bharti Kisan Union (Karanti kari), BKU (Ekta Azaad), Aazaad Kisan Committee, Doaba, BKU (Behramke), and the Bhoomi Bachao Mohim, have rallied together to orchestrate the Chandigarh protest.
