‘In politics, perception is reality’: cracks form in the newly formed Maharashtra coalition

| 05 July 2023

Oh how the tides are turning. We recently came to know there are cracks developing between Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP based on the portfolios NCP leaders were requesting. The cracks that we thought would take months to appear start appearing within mere days of the coalition. As we said before when it comes to Politics one line that always comes to mind is, and will always be “Sab Moh Maya hai” (“Everything is an illusion”). Now it's all about who has more members in their support. Both sides say that they do have a majority but none to show or confirm. The fight is not just for the coveted NCP symbol and flag but also can be seen as the sounding of the war horns for the 2024 elections. But if you check out twitter, especially discussions between Mumbaikers, you will understand “Yeh Public Hai Sab Jaanti Hai” (The Public knows everything). And sadly this is not the end it never will be. As soon as we thought this news would dull down we started receiving information that similar things would start happening all over the country, especially in Bihar and Karnataka. Does that matter? Yes! Cause one thing that maybe the parties might not understand is that this isn’t about “party legacy” or “the war of 2024” or “who comes next” but rather this is about the people of this country. Do the politicians truly believe that this much infighting among themselves looks good especially in front of the people who support you? Does the concept of “selected government” over “elected government” bring you closer to the grassroot voters or push you farther away? Sadly this is a question only time can answer. But till then I would like to end this editorial just as I started it. “Yeh Public Hai, Sab Jaanti hai”
